We all have our soft squishy side even though we often rarely expose it. Leeds based solo artist Tidjy’s debut single Breakfast in Bed provides a classic dose of feeling totally loved up. As Tidjy explains, Breakfast In Bed is an intimate song about the love and comfort you feel around your significant other.
I adore observation in a song and there is a lot in Breakfast in Bed packed into 200 seconds. When morning breath doesn’t trouble you, and when you notice how their leg twitches as they fall asleep; that’s when you really know they are the one. It almost feels as though some of the thoughts in the tune are perhaps not even shared with the love. Tidjy was aiming for intimate here, and Breakfast in Bed is raw to the heart.

Dear reader, I must confess to occasionally farting in bed. It clearly inspires my beloved as she quite often makes quite a song (and dance) about it. I can’t imagine it gracing Spotify though.
Vocally and musically, Breakfast in Bed is a beautiful track. I was watching Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam at Glastonbury last week (alas on TV), and I remembered how spell binding an honest, heartfelt, solo folkish singer-songwriter can be. There are shades of Cat Stevens here, although I pick up more modern tints of the likes of Ben Howard, Paolo Nutini and of course our Lewis.

Tidjy (aka Tom Collier) has a considerable musical pedigree and has played with indie band The Curves. This solo material must feel quite different to perform, and I was curious to ask Tom about how his March solo gig felt in comparison.
“The show in March was great!
It was very different to other things I’ve done but amazing in so many ways.
I enjoyed the simplicity of the arrangements and how raw the performance was having just myself (on acoustic) and another guitarist accompanying me on electric“.
Tom/ Tidjy also tells me he is in the process of sorting out some new shows and there will be more songs released this summer leading up to an EP. I think there’s going to be a lot to unpeel and discover in this series of tracks.
