Mezcal – Tell Me

West Yorkshire band Mezcal certainly tear it up a notch or three with the quality and balance of new single (Feb 24) Tell Me. The band build upon and push the momentum created following the release of their EP Sour Apple last year. This is a band who seriously know the term “ear worm” and Tell Me is a tune that takes up residency in your brain.

When I last wrote about Mezcal, I spoke about the Hard Rock influences that seem to flow through the strata of this band, and while there is a stronger indie balance in the music with Tell Me, I also get that secondary ear for a pulsing beat and a soaring solid guitar solo.

Fans of the likes of Pearl Jam and the Foos would find much to like in Mezcal, but they are much more too. As a one time bit vocalist back in the day, I love Ashton’s vocals. Solid, a good range and a great rich tone.

Tell Me has a theme that is every bit as strong and gutsy as the sound – here the lyrics offer a heartfelt poem that is a plea for support from someone who has lost their way and looking for some reassurance and help from their mates.

With Tell Me, Mezcal are at the top of their game and it’s a complete quality banger, cementing the band as one of our local bands at the very top of the food chain.

If they want it, if they get a bit of luck Mezcal could go national; on this showing these lads are pure talent.
