Gravy -Wait Another Day

Leeds based Gravy are another band who defy their tender teen years. Debut single Wait Another Day is one of those beautifully jangling indie funky slightly jazzy tunes, with a killer little bass line. However don’t be fooled, Wait Another Day isn’t just another well crafted but ultimately disposable debut tune.

While that halting bass beat implores your heart to follow that rhythm from the off, those urgent high jangling guitars demand attention too, and there’s a nice lazy calm jazzy smooth vocal which acts as a perfect counterweight.

In the two years together, Gravy have conquered most of the hallowed live music venues in Leeds. It really feels like Gravy are ready to cover the rest of the UK in wholesome tasty gloopy goodness. Gravy pun done, I can calm down.

If that was everything to this song, I’d be really happy, but those clever Gravy lads mix it up further towards the end. There’s a fiery instrumental segment which pulls in a whole new banging vibe, before the vocals return along with a final fury burning guitar and firy musianship.

I play a very dangerous game on the basis of one released track, but fans of the likes of L’objectif, Spinn, Youth Sector, and sophisticated early Orange Juice would be happy in the company of this track from Gravy.

There’s creativity in spades with Wait Another Day. These lads could have played it safe, but that’s not Gravy. The tune almost feels like 2 different songs, but which perfectly aline and meld together at the end. Do I want to hear more? Of course I fecking do….
