splint – Continuing Endless

Tod/Manchester band splint continue their slow but seemingly inevitable rise to cool cult fame with their fourth released track Continuing Endless.

splint seem a band amazingly comfortable and confident in their own skin. splint are a band who dance in a silent disco to their own vibe.

I caught the band (with a substantially different line up) live in a support slot at Manchester Castle a few years ago and their social media profile was non existent then. It feels splint reluctantly and occasionally give little specks of themselves away, like the occasional flash of a flat strong belly from someone wearing a short t-shirt. Someone who attracts attention even when they don’t intend to.

Continuing Endless is a swirling sound of repetition with a rolling pounding slow beat and a shoegaze drone vocal. The end result sounds like Ian Curtis has joined the Jesus and Mary Chain on the door step for a 4am slow one. Cool af, hypnotic and mesmerising af. This is a track that effortlessly stands head and shoulders above others.

Splint are an equally intriguing band on the stage with lots of concentration, peddle board fussing and a rare intensity. The band are Jake Bogacki,(vocals/guitar), Mike Hughes,(guitar), Shaun Rigby, (guitar), Ella Brown (bass), and Xuandi Zhang (drums).

Catch the band on Fri 17 May – Leeds, Brudenell,  Sat 18 May – Brighton, Great Escape Festival @ Revenge w/Nice Swan,
Fri 24 May – Halifax, Grayston Unity,
Sat 25 May – Manchester, Akoustik Anarkhy at The White Hotel, Sat 15 June – Sheffield, Hallamshire Hotel. Jake may be the one in a homely hole riddled faded t-shirt and shrouded in plaster dust.
