Steelers – Come Get Your Man

Leeds area based Steelers have released their second new single, Come Get Your Man onto an unsuspecting public.

By the point in the band’s career: just their second single, Steelers are far more polished and whole than many a band manage in a working lifetime.

Lead vocalist Noah Clegg’s adoration of all things Springsteen shines through on Come Get Your Man and fans of the likes of Springsteen, Counting Crows, The Cars and Stereophonics would be well happy in this company.

Clegg’s pleasingly slightly gravelly vocals have matured well (I’ve been following this chap since early band and solo days), and there’s a great tone and control to his voice which augers well for the future.

Behind Noah, the other band members (Issac Chinneck, Abi Littlewood and George Card), have an updated 1980’s style with tight controlled work and rocking guitar riffs, including plenty of ‘rock out’ opportunity as we move towards the end of the song.

The band members are part of Leeds Conservatoires’ Juniors and their talent shines through.

Unsurprisingly given the band’s youthful age, this is a youthful tale, a disaster national emergency haircut before graduation (haha I feel your pain) and intensely strong feelings for a girl who is the only one.

The overall vibe is of a 1980’s high school movie soundtrack, and as you might expect, it proper fair bubbles. The interesting twist in the lyrics are that not only are we getting a story of a couple’s personal relationship but the lyrics touch on their friend’s perception of the pair together. Clearly we are all influenced by our peers.

Steelers only formed last summer, and already have had a full gig at Leeds Lending Room under their belt. This is just the beginning. Next up for the band is a support slot at Leeds’ legendary Hyde Park Book Club supporting Dutch Criminal Record on Sunday 23 February 2025.
