Readers may recall my reviews of a couple of singles from flying Liverpool band The Banshees a few years back. Now lead vocalist Vinny Pereira is carving an additional notch into the tree trunk of music via a solo career. Newly released single Suzie is the second release from this new solo venture.
Suzie is a very polished and strong recording from Vinny and his experience tells.
Vinny tells me that to kick off his solo career, he has written, engineered, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered 36 songs himself.
He says: “I plan to release one track every month (27th) for the next 3 years!”

I always admired Vinny’s vocals and Suzie is no exception.
There’s something smokey good in Vinny’s voice, just laid back and controlled. Vinny’s vocals remind me just a little of Kelly Jones, and also a little of that controversial cockney hatted brother by the name of Skinner. It’s that mix of comfortable, familiar and confident, but with a pleasing spiky edge to it too.
With the solid pace and strong guitar work from Vinny, fans of the likes of solid indie rock like the Strokes and earlier Arctics would be very comfortable in Vinny’s musical territory.
Suzie itself has a lyric, which has a familiar tale of a chance encounter and a lovely time with someone who you think you might just really click with, but of course, the chances are you will just be like ships in the night, such is life.

I asked Vinny more about the creating and recording process as getting so many release ready tracks feels like total achievement.
“It’s been a lot of work for me to do but its done now so I’m really happy.
I am also trying to create videos for all tracks too but there are no promises on that. There is still so much work to do”.

Clearly too, doing it solo must make a difference?
It feels great to be solo, but I do miss the full band experience and obviously gigging.
I would love to gig my new tracks but I am working so hard on the production side of things right now and recording other artists, that I unfortunately don’t have time to do the thing I love most which is perform!
It will happen, but its just not do-able right now.
I’m still in the early stages of learning and experimenting with the recording/ mixing/ mastering process. There is a lot to learn and understand and I’m self taught so it’s a long road but a rewarding one.
Look out for the continuing Vinny Pereira solo career over the next few months – he will guarantee solid bangers.
