The crowd hanging around Private Regcords are an interesting bunch. On this site, I’ve previously spoken about the wonderfully versatile Private Reg and their style of what I might call electro dance croon, the bright sparky and fashionably scruffy garage indie of April Tapes, it’s a reviewing crime I’ve not yet found the time for the words to tell you about Substandards, and here I’m going to extol the musical virtues of Tali Jackson.

Jackson has just released the sparkly Hello, Darling as her 4th single. Tali is part of Private Reg as a vocalist, and intermingled amongst those lively creatives around Private Reg is musical magician Evan Martin, who shares writing credits for Hello Darling, and the other Jackson tracks currently on Spotify. Martin is also a production wizard and is a rising master of his trade.

Tali Jackson is a unique talent, there’s a clarity in the narrative and diction of her songs; the emotions within are totally real, honest and relatable.
Hello, Darling relates one of those lovely bright life moments when you have a wonderful first date, and where everything and life is damn fine. “Everything is pretty beige, but baby you are a rainbow” gives the sentiment, but while heads are giddy, there is also an undercurrent of realism and doubt. That heady blend between hope and experience.

The song is littered with wonderful real lyricism: ‘I’m lying on the bed kicking my feet together like a happy child’ tells all you need to know about the emotional excitement.
Musically, it’s quality pop, and Jackson displays a great vocal range. There’s kind of a nod back to the classic heyday of the pop single, but this is a track which is not stuffy or constrained in its ambition. I can honestly see Tali Jackson coming up with a song of the year at some point.
